Khái niệm “rẻ” được hiểu là hộ gia đình có thu nhập trung bình 64.000 USD có thể mua được và họ dành không quá 28% thu nhập để trang trải chi phí liên quan đến căn nhà đó.
Giá nhà xuống dốc là nguyên nhân cơ bản đẩy mức độ dễ chấp nhận về giá nhà lên trên 60% từ 3 tháng cuối năm 2008 lên 72,5% vào quý 1 năm nay. Lãi suất giảm cũng đóng góp vào xu hướng này. Lãi suất thế chấp cố định kỳ hạn 30 năm hiện thấp hơn 5%, theo công ty cho vay thế chấp Freddie Mac.
